adidas Detroit Pistons 2012 NBA Snapback Draft Cap

How To Buy A Cap

A cap is a statement you make to the world, about your team affiliation, about your hobbies, or about your style. There are hundreds of variations of caps on the market from which to choose.

Types of caps

Cap styles run the gamut from the traditional baseball cap to the Gilligan cap. Choosing the proper one for you depends on your style.

Fitted

  • Fitted caps are the traditional caps like the Major League Baseball players wear
  • They are usually made of 100% wool with a structured front and a higher profile
  • Fitted caps are sized to your head

Adjustable

  • Adjustable caps are the most popular caps today because they can be adjusted to fit any size head
  • They are made with many different materials including wool, cotton, and mesh
  • They also have many different types of closure systems including plastic snaps, leather straps with a buckle, and velcro

Unstructured

  • Unstructured caps look like a traditional baseball cap, but with a soft front that sits lower on the head for a more casual look
  • They are usually available as adjustable caps

Visors

  • Visors are a cap minus the top, they look like a headband with a brim
  • They are usually adjustable, with a rigid brim to shade your eyes
  • They are also good for wearing in hot weather because the top of your head is open, but be careful of the sun's rays

Bucket

  • Some people call this a Gilligan cap because it resembles the old cap worn by the title character on Gilligan's Island
  • Bucket caps come in a variety of fabrics and general sizes which include small, medium, large, and extra large

Cap terms

Caps are actually made up of a number of components.

Bill/Brim

  • The brim protects your face from the sun
  • They are usually made of PVC plastic, sewn inside some type of fabric

Buckram

  • The buckram is the liner inside of the front of the cap that provides the structure and form
  • Unstructured caps have no buckram, giving them the more casual, lower profile

Closure systems

  • A closure system is the system on the back of adjustable caps that allows you to adjust the size
  • Types of closures include plastic, Velcro, fabric snaps and leather bands

Embroidery

  • Embroidery is the stitching that decorates the cap, usually in the front but can be anywhere

Eyelets

  • Eyelets are the little holes scattered throughout the cap that allows your head to breathe
  • They can either be metal or reinforced stitching

Panels

  • Panels are the different pieces, usually six to eight, that make up the top of the cap

Choosing the right size fitted cap

  • Caps come in a variety of sizes and are usually measured in inches
  • It is important to choose the right size cap in order to ensure a comfortable fit
  • For the perfect fitting cap, see DetermineYour Hat Size before making your purchase decision

What?s Big, Blue, Hopes To Save Our Planet And Is Not Facebook?

theblu-world-oceans-day-june-8-youtubeThere have been a lot of complaints voiced over the last couple of years from people who wish entrepreneurs would address the world's "real problems" or do "something bigger" rather than create "me too" applications and websites. I'm not a fan of that sentiment but that's really a whole other post I need to write. In all honesty, there's a place and need in the world for all sorts of business visions - big and small. And after watching a "big vision" TED talk from a few years ago, it has changed my life. Jane McGonigal presented this idea: Millions of people around the world are becoming gaming and computer virtuosos. Through video games, people journey to alternate "worlds" where they have epic journeys and become heroes. What if we tapped into that talent and desire for a world changing quest to change our own? What if we changed the idea behind gaming completely to create games that directly had a real world impact?

EchoStar outs its HDT-610R Ultra Slim Box, says it's 'world's slimmest' DVR

Image

EchoStar has come a long way since unveiling that HDS-600RS early last year, and today the European company's taking the wraps off of its newest DVR, the Ultra Slim Box HDT-610R. Keeping true to its moniker, the 610R measures in at a slim 14mm thin, while weighing in at just under two pounds. Physical features aside, EchoStar's managed to stuff a 500GB hard drive inside the DVR's scrawny body, as well as a couple of USB 2.0 incisions and single Ethernet and HDMI ports. On the software end, the device is equipped with a Freeview+ HD feature that offers subscription-free access to over 50 "high quality" and four high-def channels -- though, you will have to pay a one-time fee for the service. The HDT-610R will be available for pre-order starting May 4th, with Amazon, John Lewis and Mapling being the first online vendors to have it for up for grabs. No word on pricing yet, but in the meantime all you Euro folks can gander at the PR below to soak up the rest of the deets.

RIM: another limited-edition developer device coming later this year

Image

Before wrapping things up at the BlackBerry 10 Jam keynote, Alex Saunders lobbed out a whale of a tidbit: the Dev Alpha may be joined by another, "very limited-edition" version of a BlackBerry 10 device much closer to the platform's official launch. According to the VP, developers who have received the Dev Alpha will be able to trade up to the new version at an unspecified time. With Alex accentuating the fact that there would be an incredibly limited number of these devices available, we imagine we'll see some extra strings attached to this offering, but no specifics have been revealed so far.

Celebration Pack Xbox 360 drapes itself in Union Jack, sings Rule Britannia

Image

If the Queen's Jubilee and 2012 Olympics pride have overcome your sense of subtlety, Microsoft has a special game console for you. The Celebration Pack Xbox 360 is a plain-jane 4GB Kinect bundle underneath, but it slathers the console, the wireless gamepad and the Kinect sensor in a tattered Union Jack to remind everyone you're not from Canada. Gamers also get copies of Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports to help them train for the 500-meter relay. Showing your patriotism with an Xbox will cost you £250 ($406) when the console is ready on May 25, while Microsoft will gladly sell you a just-as-British Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 for £30 ($49).

BlackBerry 10: A Good Start With No Finish Line [Video]

Today is BlackBerry World, a celebration of all things RIM. Or, more specifically, one thing RIM: BlackBerry 10, the company's last great hope for a much-needed comeback. But did the company trot out enough goodness today to allay fears over its future? Hard to say. And that's maybe the scariest part of all. More »
